"Take this training!"

Thursday, 16 June 2011 17:52 Daniel Fearn Training - Reports

Be warned.  After three days of nonviolence training in Minneapolis conducted by facilitators provided by Creating a Culture of Peace, I slept for twenty-four hours straight.  It was worth every moment.

Take this training and take it seriously!  As German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, the “Desert Fox” of WW II fame said, “The best form of welfare for the troops is first class training.”  Do not doubt that nonviolence is properly conducted in deadly earnest and requires preparation.

Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. are remembered as great modern practitioners of the ancient stratagem of nonviolence and did everything any military general would be expected to do.  They trained and disciplined their followers. They identified specific missions and issued orders.  They gave their troops the weapons they needed in order to win.  And, they put their people in harm’s way expecting them to do their duty and suffer, perhaps die, for their cause.

Gandhi was a general, MLK was a general--generals for justice and peace.  Since the only purpose of war is to establish a more perfect peace; how much better to create the peace with nonviolence.  Take this training and take it to heart.  Semper pacificus,

Daniel I. Fearn
