CCP Lead Facilitators and longtime activists Steve Shanks and Janet Chisholm will offer nonviolent direct action training at SOA Watch again this year. Steve is an Episcopal Deacon and member of the National Episcopal Peace Fellowship’s Executive Council.  He is from Birmingham, Alabama.  Janet is CCP National Coordinator.

Thousands will gather, as they have annually since 1990, for the Peace Vigil and the Nonviolent Direct Action, seeking to close the U.S. Army’s School of the Americas at Fort Benning.   Since 1964 the School of Americas has trained over 64,000 Latin American soldiers in courses such as counterinsurgency, psychological warfare, military intelligence and interrogation tactics.  Graduates have been consistently linked to human rights violations and the suppression of popular movements.   Training manuals that were used at the School advocated the use of torture, extortion and execution.
